HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Game

Canyons was created to make it easier to start a conversation and more fun to form a connection. Players take turns pulling cards from the deck. Each card gives you the power to decide what kind of game you are playing. The game is just the beginning, the connections are real and the further you go, the more you get from the experience. If you want help getting started, try out some of the questions we’ve collected from people who played the game.

Don’t have a deck?

You can try the game on any standard playing cards with these rules:

ASK & ANSWER

In Canyons, you have equal chance of asking someone a question or picking someone to ask you question. Why? Because if you want to people to really open up, you have to be willing to give as much as you’re asking.

THE PHILOSOPHER

This magic card reminds us that everyone has their own perspective on any idea. The Philosopher lets everyone answer the last question.

THE WIZARD

Make the game your own by creating your own rule. The Wizard’s rule lasts until the next Wizard gets played.

THE LOVERS

Give or receive a little bit of love by either asking for a compliment if you get the golden Lover or giving a compliment if you get the rainbow Lover.

THE TIME TRAVELER

Discover a world where one small change in the timeline could mean a whole new experience. This wildcard allows you to use the powers of any of the cards to ask, answer, compliment, or make a rule.

KARMA

If you like someone’s answer, question, or gameplay you can give them a card from the deck. This is Karma. Karma in your hand can be played at any point for extra turns, to ask follow up questions, or use a card’s magic power.

QUESTIONS

We believe that a good question can get a conversation started, but a real connection comes when you ask the right question. Luckily, there’s no one better than you to figure out what the right question is at the right moment.

It’s also great to keep a couple of good questions in your back pocket, so we’ve collected some of our favorites to help get your next game started.

You don’t even need the game to try one out. Ask someone one of these questions and see what happens.
